A New York New Year
New York City for New Years? Absolutely. This is on more bucket lists than I can count, and it should be. What is more festive, magical and romantic than strolling the frozen streets of Manhattan or one of the many burrows during the Christmas season? Honestly probably not much. I went to New York on a girl’s trip in December of 2016, ready to ring in the New Year in all of its glory. I was fresh out of a relationship, I had just spent my first Christmas without the man I referred to as Grandpa and I craved a little adventure.
This was my third trip to NYC, but my first at Christmas. We had an absolutely wonderful time, from seeing all of the amazing Christmas window displays, eating good food and enjoying one another’s company. We ice skated at The Rink at Rockefeller Center (one of the many things I have always wanted to do), watched as they prepared Time Square for the festivities that come along with ringing in a New Year and took a trip to Brooklyn to visit The Bagel store where you can enjoy the original rainbow bagel, complete with rainbowfetti cream cheese!
All in all our trip was something we all needed. A fresh start, a new outlook on life and an appreciation for those around us.
Takeaways:
If you want to ring in the New Year in Time Square, you need to show up since early morning to get a spot.
It is COLD, cut through your jeans down to your bones cold. Pack warmer, thicker clothes than you think you need.
Eat at hole in the wall places, they always have the BEST food.
