If This Is Austin
I still love you…. That is for all of my country music fans out there, by far one of my favorite Blake Shelton songs and I honestly can’t believe it was released 20 years ago (mind blown). But this isn’t what this post is about, this post is about Austin, Texas. I recently visited there on a girl’s trip for my friend Renell’s 32nd birthday. I had never been to Austin but I was excited to go. For those of you who haven’t been, I would describe it as the Pacific Northwest meets Nashville. It’s kind of hipster, kind of country and a nice little getaway.
We spent 3 days enjoying food, drinks and a concert. We started Thursday afternoon at Via313 Pizzeria and it was delicious, we shared a Caesar salad, and a Detroit style pizza that was half Bobo Brazil and half Ambassador Bridge. Both sides of the pizza were amazing, but I think my favorite was the Hot Honey on the Bobo Brazil! The drinks were strong (for me anyway) but it was a nice and relaxed family atmosphere. If you’re in town check them out!
On Friday we went on a Dripping Springs Distillery Tour. We visited Dripping Springs Distillery, Desert Door and Treaty Oak Distillery. We booked with Texas Tipsy Tours which can be slightly pricy, but was worth it. Our driver Mick picked us up in a private car and drove us to each destination. We were touring from about 11:00 am - 5:00 pm when we were dropped back off at our Air B&B.
Saturday was all about good eats and walking around. We started with donuts from The Salty Donut. We ordered 4 to share, the Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake, Brown Butter + Salt, Cornflake Cereal Milk & Honey and the Pumpkin Spice Cookie Butter. Because I am basic the two seasonal ones were my favorite (Pumpkin Spice Cookie Butter and Cornflake Cereal Milk + Honey). Then we headed out for Dim Sum Brunch at Lin Asian Bar . This place was packed and we had reservations which I would definitely recommend. Everything was delicious, from the many dishes we tried to the drinks. After this we took a stroll to do a little shopping and finished the day off with another stop for cocktails.
We were able to catch John Moreland at Antone’s as well. It was a successful trip with fun adventure and some much needed rest.
Takeaways:
Austin is walkable, take comfortable shoes
Even though the weather was overcast it wasn’t as cold as it looked
Pack at least one jacket (I went in mid-November)
Masks are optional? I am still not sure what Austin’s stand on masks or vaccines are. At Antone’s we were required to show proof of vaccination along with our ID, but everywhere else wearing them seemed to be optional.
